Banksy believes that although he may be sheltered behind an unknown identity, he advocates for a direct connection between an artist and his constituency.
“All you need is a few ideas
and a broadband connection. This is the first time the bourgeous world of art has belonged to the people. We need to make it count.”
Banksy is making it county by giving meaning to his artwork. Drawing inspiration from local and world politics, his pieces quickly go viral due to their controversial images.
Most recently going viral was his shredding of the “Girl with the Balloon” live at an auction.

Seconds after the auction hammer fell, the piece ate itself. Banksy was poking fun at the establishment of the art world. On his Instagram page, he captions the video with a quote by Picasso, “The urge to destory is also a creative urge.”
The stencil on the bottom left is a melding of street-fighting passion and pacifist ardor with his image of a protestor whose Molotov cocktail morphs into a bouquet.
Banksy has a mural in NYC projecting black tally marks that look like jail bars to represent the three years Turkish artist, Zehra Dogan, was sentenced in prison for painting a brutally damaged city in Turkey.
