Yto Barrada

Yto Barrada was a famous photographer, and she is born in Paris. She was elevated in Tangier, Morocco. Her father was a French journalist, and his name was Hamid Barrada. Her education was in history and political science. She studied in Sorbonne in Paris. She was a permanent photographer at the international center of photography.

She is living in Tangier, Morocco and working in the same place. She is a citizen of Morocco and Moroccan multimedia visual artist. She has a designation of director and co-founder of Cinematheque de Tanger. Moreover, she has a membership of Arab Image Foundation which is Beirut-based.

She begins to start work and takes the title of the straight project. She describes the stagnant and settlers life of her hometown. She describes the dangerous journey of her life. She forms a book and the book’s name is the “A life full holes-the strait project.” This book was published in 2006. It was a published work by Autograph ABP in 2006. In the same year, she secures an award from Berlin, and the award name is Ellen Auerback.

There are many more exhibitions photography and video which are presented by Barrada. There are some exhibitions on the name of Barrada such as Witte de With (Rotterdam), Fundacio Taoies (Barcelona), Jeu de paume (Paris), the Kitchen (New York) and many more. Her 2007 work represents the nature and natural scenes such landscapes, flowers as well as she describes the monoculture visions of planners and developers on the fast-growing edges of the city by her photography.

The era of 2011 is very important for her life because she secures the award of Artist of the year in 2011. She takes the owner of the exhibition untitled Riffs at the Deutsche Guggenheim. This significant place regarding Barrada is in Berlin. Barrada takes much fame when she publishes “RIFFS” with Hatz. There is another limited edition which is called “A Guide to Trees for Governors and Gardeners. She has a very fantastic monograph which is published by JRP Ringier in 2013.

There is an art center which is called the Walker Art Center situated in Minneapolis. This center arranges the exhibition of her album. This project is organized from November to May. Another famous exhibition of her called “The Power Plant.” This exhibition is arranged in Toronto which highlights the issues of post-colonial Morocco.
